Flügger Gruppen has adopted a modern and flexible IT architecture to move quickly, taking its eCommerce to another level.

Flügger

Flügger Gruppen has been a supplier of paint for more than 125 years, both in physical stores and online through the web www.flugger.dk. In April 2022, Flügger introduced a new online brand Notes of Colour, aimed directly at consumers (D2C).

When Flügger conceived the idea of Notes of Colour, his goal was to create a brand with a strong appeal to a new and young demographic that seeks inspiration and makes purchases online. However, questions quickly arose within the organization: Why can't we directly manage the sale of paint to consumers in our current digital configuration? Is our current IT architecture hampering our business opportunities? How will we address similar situations in the future? Flügger realized that they had self-imposed a series of limitations that they needed to free themselves from.

Thus, Flügger decided to position the new brand, Notes of Colour, and began to build a completely new digital configuration to be able to sell paint directly to European consumers. At the same time, in collaboration with Novicell, Flügger began to break down its old single-system, monolithic and limiting architecture to gradually transform it into a modern and flexible IT architecture: Composable.

The new architecture Composable, is capable of managing multiple brands, diverse sales channels in several countries, different acquisition scenarios as well as other future challenges.

Flügger divided his IT monolith into several interconnected systems through APIs, thus adopting a composable eCommerce, or a composable architecture. The goal is to facilitate updates for each individual module.

This”composable architecture“allows you to implement, update or replace each individual component of the company's technological stack without affecting the rest of the digital ecosystem. In other words, the platform is designed to be flexible and scalable, allowing for easy adaptation as Flügger's technology and business needs evolve.

Flügger represents a solid omnichannel concept that connects physical stores and the e-commerce platform in multiple European countries, such as Denmark, Sweden and Poland. As part of this project, a new Flügger e-commerce universe has been created, encompassing both B2C and B2B commerce. The Flügger brand offers a comprehensive customer experience, where the shopping journey, both in physical stores and online, includes technical aspects and encompasses more than just the sale of paints. In addition to offering a wide range of products, Flügger provides consulting, accessory and maintenance services, allowing customers to have a complete and satisfying experience.

The implementation of a composable eCommerce has provided Flügger with significant benefits, including:

  1. Modularity and flexibility: The composable architecture, the basis of composable eCommerce, allows the individual components of the Flügger technological ecosystem to be independent and replaceable. This makes it easy to deploy, upgrade and replace components without affecting the rest of the system. Flügger can quickly adapt to changing market demands and new technologies without significant interruptions.
  2. Scalability: The composable architecture allows Flügger to grow and expand more efficiently. You can add new services as needed without affecting the integrity of your eCommerce system. This is especially important in an omnichannel environment, where the company needs to adapt to the needs of multiple sales channels and countries.
  3. Agility in innovation: By separating the components of the composable architecture, Flügger can innovate and develop new functionalities in a more agile way. You can implement updates and improvements faster, allowing you to keep up with the latest trends and provide an improved customer experience.
  4. Ease of maintenance: The composable architecture makes it easy to maintain the system. As we have already mentioned, individual components can be updated or repaired without affecting other aspects of the platform. This reduces downtime and costs associated with maintenance and improves overall system stability.

These advantages allow the company to adapt quickly to market changes and provide an optimal experience to its customers both in physical stores and in its now composable eCommerce.
