Umbraco 8 has arrived

Leandro Benítez
Director General

Finally we have it. This month, the long-awaited last installment of Umbraco, one of the more versatile and secure content managers of the market. Un Fast CMS, solid, elegant and open source.

With this latest version, Umbraco polishes two important aspects that made it difficult to use for large projects, multilingual management, and that limit on the number of pages that were around hundreds of thousands.

Umbraco 8 comes with a fully rewritten multilanguage system, is elegant, fast and very intuitive, well in line with Umbraco of taking care of every last aspect of usability. In terms of page volume, the entire cache system has been rewritten from scratch for a more modern and efficient architecture. The limit? The sky.

A lot more details have been introduced in this version, and we'll list some of the most relevant ones here.

Infinite Edition

After a very fine work on usability, Umbraco now allows you, while you are editing a page, to access the full editing experience of related elements such as images or other pages. Since it's complicated to explain, we'd better look at an example.

This new functionality translates into a great productivity benefit for publishers who use this CMS.

Language Variations

As I said at the beginning, the CMS now has full native support for multilingual. In addition, they have added some rules to make life easier for publishers, such as defining within a page which fields are multilingual (e.g. title, subtitle) and which are not (e.g. date, photo). There is another rule for specifying what the base language is and if there must be a fallback language, this means that, if a field is not translated, the content can be displayed in its version in another language.

Content Apps

It's just another name to say plugins, but these are some slightly special plugins. They are plugins that interact with content and can display contextual information. For example, a plugin for managing web translations with a translation company, or a plugin that gives you SEO suggestions about the content of the page. I have no doubt that the community and companies will develop great Content Apps in the coming months.

Official presentation of Umbraco 8 in Spain

On April 10, the official presentation of Umbraco 8 was held in Barcelona, where we were able to meet its creators.
